A Jazz Night in Ankara

Last Friday we spent a night out and enjoyed the concert by a jazz band called Anatolydian. They perform every Friday starting at 8:15pm at the TENEDOS Café. It is one of the rare spots in Ankara (Kızılırmak Cad.29-A Kocatepe, ph. 419 3450) which stage Jazz music.
Anatolydian is a professional band with an amateur spirit, consisting of 6 musicians, truly devoted to jazz music. The musical instruments played in the band are piano, gitar, bass, saxaphon, trumpet and percussion. The band was formed about a year ago. They mostly perform Jazz standards as well as their own compositions for the Jazz lovers' pleasure.
Anatolydian is a group of musicians who seem to forget the audience, because there is no notion of us or them, space or time during their performance; there is only Music they truly love and enjoy. The Pianist and the originator of the band Miraç finds the contact with the public very naturally; along with their performance, it's a pleasure to hear his remarks, full of humor and joy of life. He is also the composer of many of their scores. These pieces venture from flamenko to smooth Jazz and from bebop, hardbop to fusion. This variation is just another sign of their adventurous spirit which likes taking a ride with Jazz. We simply joined them for a night's vacation, only to discover that we need to get back for more.
