A Lighthouse in Ankara

We decided to celebrate our friend’s birthday at Gelidonya Feneri(*) Restaurant, Çankaya.
The restaurant offers selected examples of “Aegean and Mediterranean” cuisine and we had the opportunity to try new tastes instead of traditional mezes. As we were a group of 20 people we chose a set menu and we enjoyed the delicious mezes. The Girit Ezmesi (Crete Mash -cheese, grated walnut and pistachio, thyme, garlic, red pepper and olive oil) and Eggplant Salad were especially mouth-watering. Some of us ordered fried fish for the main course while others preferred meat, but all were pleased with their choice. The Eggplant dessert is a must-taste experience.
Gelidonya Feneri is a rather small but cozy restaurant. It has a small garden in front, which I am sure would be ideal for summer nights in Ankara. There is not an open-air heater for smokers yet; however, I believe this will soon be solved on demand.
If you wish to dine at an easily accessible, pleasant restaurant, accompanied by nostalgic Turkish and Greek music I suggest you try Gelidonya Feneri

(*) The Gelidonya Lighthouse was built on the historical Lycia route between Antalya, Kumluca, Taşlık forelands in 1936. It is the highest lighthouse in Turkey, with an altitude of 227 meters. Being located over steep rocks, it is quite difficult to reach there and even today, it is operated manually due to the difficulty in supplying electricity.
