Agva

As you cross the bridge and turn right (Göksu is now on the right and a little bit downwards), you reach the settled area of Agva (officially called Yesilçay). The population of Agva is 2,500, but it increases to 15,000 in the summer. The same figure is also valid on weekends. You can take motorboats to reach the sites located on the other side of the creek, which you cannot reach via highway.
Hundreds of birds nestled on the greenery on both banks sing natural music to those resting on the hammocks. You can rent boats, canoes, pedal boats or motorboats to row over this beautiful creek surrounded with rushes. The fresh water is ideal for fishing and swimming. To swim in the sea, you have to walk 300-500 meters to the 3-km-long beach on the coast of the Black Sea.
Most establishments have swimming pools. The Kilimli and Kadyrga bays, the small woods, waterfalls and caves are the natural beauties to be discovered for those who enjoy trekking. The forests nearby are suitable for trekking, jogging, cycling and hunting.
Agva derives from a Latin word meaning "a village between two creeks".
Among the interesting historical sites are the ruins of a Roman church and gravestones
in Hacili village, the ruins of a citadel in Hisartepe and the mountain mill
in the Sungurlu neighborhood. The native people consist of Turkmen tribes who
came from Konya, Karaman and Balykesir in the 14th century. Fruits, vegetables,
fishing, lumber and Sile Bezi hand embroidery are the main sources of
income in the town.
