Alternative Party Venues

You can hold some activities such as cocktail parties, dinners, or wedding parties in a historical atmosphere if you pay a specific rental fee for some of the historical sites. All you have to do to reserve the site is write an application to the authorities the venue belongs to, such as theMinistry of Culture and Tourism, National Palaces or the Metropolitan Municipality. You should indicate the intended use in your application and deliver the letter to the authorities at least 30 days prior to the date you wish to use the place. The activity taking place must not bear an ideological aim, must not harm the works of art and must not hinder visitors.

Most of these sites do not have audio-visual facilities. You should obtain the necessary equipment and they should not harm the historical works. If you also wish to use the water and electricity of these sites you will have to pay some fee.

Yerebatan Sarnıcı (Basilica Cistern)
Yerebatan Sarnıcı is under the authority of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and is suitable for wedding ceremonies, cocktail parties and dinners. You should apply to the Directorate of the Cistern. You may use the place only after working hours. If the date is available, a protocol can be arranged immediately.

Aya Irini (St. Irene)
The church is mostly used for classical music concerts and exhibitions, and it is available until 24:00.

Museums
The Turkish Islamic Arts Museum, Divan Edebiyatı Museum (Whirling Dervishes Lodge), The Archeological Museum and the Anatolian Civilizations Museum of Ankara are among the museums that can be used for activities. If it is found appropriate by the Directorate of Museums, you can serve appetizers and drinks during cocktail parties in the closed areas of the museum.

Palaces
The palaces are open for receptions and exhibitions; however, the closed sections of the palaces available are the kitchen of Dolmabahçe Palace, known as Dolmabahçe Cultural Center (Dolmabahçe Kültür Merkezi), the stables in Yıldız Palace and the tunnel of Beylerbeyi Palace. The gardens of all the museums are available for your open-air activities. A written application should be sent to Milli Saraylar Daire Başkanlığı (National Palaces Directorate) of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
For the Topkapı Palace Museum and Court and Mecidiye Kiosk, you should apply directly to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Antique Theaters
Antique theaters such as Aspendos, Efes, Side and Bodrum or Bergama Asklepion are suitable for cultural activities such as concerts, plays and fashion shows, in addition to cocktail parties and dinners for cultural purposes. You can apply to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Rumeli Hisarı and Yedikule
Rumelihisarı and Yedikule Dungeon are open for some cultural cocktail parties and receptions plus concerts.

Galata Mevlevihanesi
Galata Mevlevihanesi is the most suitable place for sema (whirling dervishes) shows. The site is administered by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
