Merhaba,
We are Cees and Truus van den Brandt from Waalwijk in Holland. We are about 50 years old. One of our hobbies is photography. We use a digital camera, the Canon Powershot G3. We think it's a good camera. During our holidays in Portugal, Crete, Italy and Turkey, we made lots of pictures. (the last 4 years we went to Turkey) We put several photos on this photopage. You can take a look in the photo-albums. The travel reports are also in English. The last travel report May 2004 is not translated yet, but it's coming soon. (www.brandtjes.nl). This year May 2004, we went to Turkey by car. We drove from Holland to Italy and then by boat to Greece. We enjoyed our trip very much and maybe next year, we do it again.
What made you come to Turkey?
The sun, the see and nature. We like to travel to the old places, Knidos, Aspendos,
Aphrodisias, Manavgat, Side etc. But also the people. We enjoy every holyday
in Turkey. We talked a lot with the people in Icmeler.
What do you do in your daily life?
My job is police-officer and my wife is a security person.
Family?
We have two sons, one is 31 years old and he's gone married this year with an
English lady. The other son is still learning (informatica technic).
Can you compare your first days here with today?
In Holland we have a lot to do, working, clean the house, cooking, and in Turkey
we always have fun.
Has living in Turkey influenced your approach to life?
I hope, we really liked the way of living in Turkey.
Turkish language?
This winter we will learn Turkish language. Of course, we can speak a few Turkish
words. But in the future, we will stay in Winter in Marmaris or Icmeler. Then
it has to be necessary to speak Turkish and also reading a Turkish newspaper.
Let's talk about the region you are living in?
We live in the south of Holland, about 30 km from the border with Belgium. Our
city is called Waalwijk. In our surrounding are many woods. There is the river
Maas, Of course it is very flat here. Waalwijk also has a mosque.
There is a fancy park "de Efteling" with fairy tales, steam train,
roller coasters etc. http://www.efteling.nl/home.aspx?LanguageId=2
Have you traveled in Turkey? Tell us your discoveries
The first time that we went to Turkey we did a fly & drive with a rented
car.. From Antalya to Konya. From Konya to Cappadocia. From Cappadocia to Mersin.
From Mersin to Anamur and from Anamur naar Side.We drove about 1500 km. and
we've seen a lot. The next 3 years we went to Icmeler in May for 3 weeks. We
rent a car for one week and made several tours. Once from Icmeler to Side trough
the mountains and back we drove via the coast. The other time we went to Selcuk,
Kusadasi, Bodrum and once with a jeep we drove to Pamukkale. This year we went
by car from Holland, via Italy and Greece to Eceabat, and then to Icmeler. The
travel reports and a lot of photos you can see at our homepage www.brandtjes.nl
What is your preferred characteristic trait of Turks?
We have seen the cost from Canakkele till Mersin, but we love Icmeler.
What was the annoying one?
None!!!
Turkish Cuisine?
In Side we most times ate in the Ottoman restaurant. And of course the Ottoman
cuisine.
Any suggestion to new comers to Turkey?
If you give your respect to the Turkish people, you will enjoy it like we did
and still do.
Any suggestion to people planning to visit your region?
We also have some old city's. Breda, Den Bosch, Utrecht. These city's have a
nice old downtown cq centrum. Nice terraces and shopping-center.
