Coves

Turkey is surrounded on three of its sides by seas, and when you look at the map there are countless bays, inlets and coves on the coastlines. In particular, the Aegean coasts, where blue merges with green, have been the subject of various myths in addition to its stunning natural beauties. According to a legend, Cleopatra swam in all of the coves of the southern coasts when she came to Anatolia 2000 years ago for a diplomatic meeting with Marcus Antonius.

The jury of the daily newspaper "Hürriyet", who are travel writers, captains and guides, have chosen the top 10 coves in Turkey. The most important considerations while choosing the coves were that they be calm, clean and uninhabited. Most of them are located in Gökova, Datça and Fethiye. These secret paradises host people who enjoy Blue Voyage and discovery.

Çatı Coves
Büyük Çatı and Küçük Çatı Coves, drawing a big S shape in the Bördübet port of Gökova Gulf, are magnificent natural ports. Since there is no land route, these coves have been protected. They are small, and only one or two boats can anchor at the same time. The coves are surrounded by centuries-old pine trees and the sweetgum (liquid amber orientalis) reach up to the sky. Furthermore, it is a wonderful walking area, although inhabitation and accommodation facilities are not available. The coves are protected from the wind, so the sea is calm. The coves are 4 km away from the Amazon area between Marmaris and Datça.

Bademli
Bademli, which is 10 km away from Dikili, Izmir, is a green hidden natural port. When the weather permits, it is a great pleasure to swim in the turquoise sea among the islands just in front of the port. The cove is surrounded with olive trees. The coast has thermal water springs. Sea bass and octopus are among the tastes to be tried at Bademli Port. The Garip and Kalemli islands are places to be visited. We strongly suggest you that taste the olives and olive oil and that you purchase some to take home. Transportation is provided via minibuses taking off from Dikili, and hotels and pensions are available for accommodation.

Okluk
Okluk, located at Değirmen Bükü, is a very beautiful cove with natural trekking routes. The famous Turkish seaman Sadun Boro, who traveled all the seas around the world, protected the pine tree number 8 and the tree is called "Sadun Boro's Tree". In order to reach Okluk, make the turn towards Karacasöğüt on the Muğla - Marmaris highway. The cove is 4 km away from Karacasöğüt village.

Yedi Adalar (The Seven Islands)
Yediadalar is famous for its natural beauties and for the surrounding coral rocks. It is one of the most beautiful stopping ports of the Blue Voyage in Gökova. The cove is surrounded with pine trees, and a gentle breeze calms the weather. Trekking, swimming, diving and sailing are among the facilities. You can reach Yediadalar via the Çatı coves, and it is 10 km away from Amazon area. When sailing from Tuzla, one must pass Hırsız Cove (the Thief's Cove) to reach Yediadalar.

Balıkaşıran
At HisarönüGulf on the 26th kilometer of the Marmaris-Datça highway. Balıkaşıran (which means "passing over fish") is where Aegean and Mediterranean seas meet. In fact, you can view both seas at the same time. According to legend, a fish caught here from the Aegean Sea could be transported alive to the Mediterranean Sea. Another legend tells that whover passes once over Balıkaşıran falls in love with it and doesn't want to leave. Accommodation is not available, but access can be provided via minibuses.

Bencik
Bencik Cove is at the narrowest point of the Datça peninsula, which separates Marmaris from Datça. Dişlice is a rocky islet in the middle of the cove. When Persians invaded the Aegean coast in 450 B.C., they came this area and so the cove is mentioned even by historian Herodot. The cove is protected from violent winds and is preferred by yachts. Accomodation is not available, but transportation is provided via minibuses from Datça.

Turunç Pınarı Cove
This is one of the Oyuktepe Coves and is located west of Kalemya Cove. You can get there either by sea or by road. The hills of Turunç Pınarı are full of pine trees. The restaurant named Balıkçı Osman'ın Yeri (Fisherman Osman's Place) has been serving in the cove for 24 years, and is very famous. Those who come here can buy fresh fruit and vegetables, and the local bread, which is baked in a firewood oven, is also famous. You can taste sea food here in every season.

Torba
Torba is one of the coves that closest to Bodrum, being only six kilometers away from the city center. Although settlement has recently increased, the cove has retained its cleanliness. Torba also has historical importance with its antique rock tombs and monastery ruins. Since Torba is protected from the wind, the sea is calm. The coastline, although badly damaged in a fire some years ago, still preserves the general greenness. Hotels and pensions line the shore.

Gideros
Gideros is one of the most beautiful coves of the western Black Sea and is within the city limits of Kastamonu. The cove is surrounded by chestnut, oak, beech, box and pine trees. The calm sea resembles a lake and is accessible either by road or by sea. It's also possible to set anchor. You can reach Gideros via the curvy İnebolu - Cide highway. Accommodation is available in Cide, which is 12 kilometers away.

Küçük Kargı
Küçük Kargı cove is on the Mugla highway 3 kilometers from Fethiye and is surrounded with sweetgum (liquid amber orientalis) trees. It is a natural aquarium and a favorite place for divers. Picnickers and campers also prefer to visit Küçük Kargı. Transportation from Fethiye is available. It is very crowded in summer.
