Turco British Association
|
Ankara offers a variety of cultural centers, both private and state owned. In addition Turrkey's major banks actively foster art and culture by maintaining art centers and sponsoring other activities.
Many of the international embassies located in Ankara have their own cultural offices, which organize conferences, expositions, concerts, films and language courses. Most have a fine collection of cultural resources on their respective cultures. These generally include a rich selection of books, CD-ROMs, cassette tapes, DVDs and VCDs. All these resources are available to the public, both foreigners and Turks.

Türk Amerikan Kültür Derneği (Turkish American Association)
Turkish American Association at Kavaklıdere was founded over 50 years ago. Its
main goals are to teach English, and to reach out the American community in
Ankara. This Association also hosts a wide range of activities highlighting
art and culture. Their dance classes - including Argentine Tango- and patchwork
clubs are quite popular. They also offer courses on painting, guitar, classical
ballet, and decorative painting. They regularly sponsor conferences, exhibitions
and concerts that contribute to the cultural life of the city.
Türk İngiliz Kültür Derneği (Turco British Association)
The Turkco British Association was founded in 1951 to strengthen the cultural
relationship between Turkey and the United Kingdom. The Association organizes
exhibitions, conferences, seminars, concerts and trips to further this goal.
They offer a wide range of cultural activities at their 10-story modern building
located in Kavaklıdere.
Goethe Enstitüsü(Goethe Institute)
Goethe Institute is the German cultural center with branches in Ankara, Istanbul
and İzmir. Headquarted in Munich, with more than 150 branches in 75 countries,
the Goethe Institute is well equipped to foster cross-cultural understanding
and to teach the German language. The Ankara branch offers regular classes in
language and culture and arranges seasonal exhibitions, conferences, workshops
and films often timed to coinside with important German holidys and festivals.
Many of these activities take place at the Institute's lovely meeting hall with
capacity of 120. The Ankarabranceh of the Goethe Institute is located at Bakanlıklar.
With over 15.000 printed and visual resources on Germany's cultural, social
and political life, the Institute's excellent library is open to all.
Türk Japon Vakfı (Turkish Japanese Institution)
Based in Oran, this foundation was established in 1993 to develop social, cultural,
technological and economic relations between Turkey and Japan. Its broad institutional
mission includes language teaching, cultural education, and collaboration with
other national and international associations, the encouragement of scientific
research and publishing, and the creation of the Japanese Studies and Documentation
Center in Ankara.
The many popular programs orgmanized byy the foundation include: GO (Japanese chess), silk and pentur painting. In addition the foundation's Oranium Sports center offers capoeira, taebo, yoga, fitness, aikido, karate, tae-kwon-do, step and aerobics. The beautifully curate exhibits at the IMKB Art Gallery are always worth to visit, as are the Mikado Japanese Restaurant, Palet Patisserie and Assos fish restaurant.
İtalyan Kültür Merkezi (Italian Cultural Institution)
The Italian Cultural Center was founded in 1959 to encourage the dissemination
of Italian language and culture. Froum its location in Gaziosmapaşa the center
organizes exhibitions, conferences, concerts, Italian film shows and Italian
language courses. The center has expanded its mission beyond Gaziosmanpaşa,
working actively with the Italian Language and Literature sections of many Turkish
universities. The center also has a library with books, periodicals, and video
recources, mostly in Italian.
ÇAÄžSAV - Çağdaş Sanatlar Vakfı (Modern Arts Foundation)
Art lover bureaucrats, businessmen, scientist and artist established Çağsav
to ensure an ongoing venue for the modern arts in Ankara. The foundation seeks
to nourish appreciation for modern art, and to educate the community through
exhibitions, journals and events. The activities take place at Municipality
of Çankaya Modern Arts Center in Kavaklıdere. The exhibitions "Japanese
Modern Art 2000", "A Section in Modern English Art" and "Ankart
2002 - 2nd Ankara Art Fair" are some of their recent activities. Meanwhile,
the organization is restoring the several old train hangars and ateliers to
form the Modern Arts Museum.
