Delicatessen

As soon as you set foot in a delicatessen, various kinds of cheese, sucuk (sausage), pastırma (dried and spiced meat), salami, caviars, olives and mezes immediately attract you. The gourmets on Hürriyet newspaper's jury have chosen the best delicatessens in Turkey.

Şütte
In 1918 German Shutte opened the first shop of his delicatessen chain "Şütte" (the way his name is pronounced). The oldest one is in Beyoğlu Balıkpazarı, and it has branches in Gayrettepe, Yeşilköy, Etiler, Teşvikiye and Caddebostan. Further, there are stores in İzmir and Bodrum selling Şütte products. Şütte is famous for its Italian salami with pepper, parmesan and pork products. Foreign customers increase the sale of pork products. Şütte offers 25 kinds of local and foreign cheese. The mezes are all their own products. Şütte grizon, dried veal, is among its specialties. It is open everyday except Sunday from 09:00 to 20:00.

Saraylar Şarküteri
It was first opened in Karaköy in 1930 and then moved to Balıkpazarı. There are 15 kinds of local and foreign cheese. Sucuk and pastırma are from Kayseri and Afyon. The customers are mostly Greeks who have emigrated from Istanbul and the Jewish community. It is open everyday except Sundays from 07:30 and 20:00.

Santral Şarküteri
It has been located in Bebek for 50 years and there are 50-60 kinds of local and foreign cheese, including fondue cheese. Italian salamis, brezulla, mortizella, prosciutto, sausages, salami and sucuk are among the products of Santral Şarküteri. Since most customers prefer white meat, they also sell chicken and turkey products. It is open everyday from 08:00 to 21:30.

Namlı Şarküteri
Namlı was founded in Eminönüand has been in service for 70 years under the ownership of members of the same family. All meat products are their own production. They prepare 30 kinds of warm and cold mezes at noon. They are famous for their Kars cheese, olives and pastırma. Their most faithful customers are Israelis who visit Istanbul as tourists, and they usually prefer pastırma, sucuk and cheese. Namlı also exports its products to Germany, Austria, France and Israel in vacuumed packages. It is open everyday except Sunday from 06:30 to 20:30.

Antre Gourmet
Antre was founded three years ago and is already famous for its regional cheeses. Thyme salad, tofu and nar ekşisi (pomegranate vinegar) are among the specialty products they sell. It is open everyday from 09:00 to 21:00.

Tuşba
Located in Pangaltı, it has been in service since 1968. Tuşba has also a branch in Sirkeci. They are famous for their homemade mezes, especially topik (an Armenian meze). It is open everyday from 06:30 to 22:00.

Çerkezköy Gıda
It was founded in Adapazarı in 1957 and, before the foundation of various delicatessens in Ankara, it provided all of the requirements of the Presidency. They are famous for their Iranian black caviar. There are 20 kinds of cold mezes and all meat products are specially produced for Çerkezköy Gıda. It is open everyday from 07:30 to 19:30.

Merkez Şarküteri
It was founded in 1966 and is famous for its white cheese. The product most indispensable for the customers is the thin and unsalted yufka dough. It is open everyday from 07:30 to 24:00.

Sultan Market
Sultan market provides various rare products such as far eastern spices, various kinds of Italian cheese, American sauces and pork. It was founded 25 years ago and is famous among bureaucrats, politicians and businessmen. Please note that Sultan Market is closed in September 2004. Çerkezköy Şarküteri
It was founded in Izmir in 1960 and provides delivery service. The customers are mostly foreigners, especially Italians. Varieties of ham, Italian cheese and salt bonito are among the favorite products. They open a branch in Alaçatı, Çeşme in summers. It is open every day between 08:00 and 20:00.
