Fish Restaurants

Kıyı Restaurant
According to research conducted by the daily Hürriyet Newspaper, the following fish restaurants are the finest ten in Istanbul.

Kıyı
Kıyı is located in Tarabya and is the only restaurant not to feature live music. It operates everyday from noon to midnight and reservation is a must, especially during weekends. Price varies according to the menu. It is rather expensive, however worth the price. The owner, Mr. Hüseyin Göndoğan, personally deals with the service. The quality of service is excellent and the fish is the freshest in town.

Deniz
This restaurant is in service from noon till midnight. Customers will need to make a reservation. The price for a portion of fish, salad, calamari, wine, fruit and dessert is reasonable for a fish restaurant. Fish liver and maritime kidney bean (deniz börülcesi), are their specialties. There is a non-smoking section.

Hisar İskele
The old quay at Rumeli Hisarı now hosts a fine fish restaurant. It is open everyday between 12:00 and 02:00 and a reservation is required. CDs of slow music are played. Marinated fish, grilled calamari and chocolate soufflé are İskele's specialties.

Bebek Balıkçısı
Located by the sea, this restaurant is open everyday between 12:00 and 24:00. The customers are entertained with music off of CDs. The salted fish and stewed red gurnard should not be missed.

Balıkçı Hasan
The most famous fish restaurant in Yeşilköy, Balıkçı Hasan is open everyday between 12:00 and 24:00 and reservation is required. The salt bonito is a must which you have to taste!!

Ali Baba
Ali Baba is located near seashore across the famous Kireçburnu Bakery at the European side of the Bosphorus. It is open everyday between 12:00 and 24:00 and reservation is required for dinner. Fried fish is strongly recommended.

Doğa Balık
Doga is at Cihangir and open everyday between 12:30 - 01:30. Reservation is required for scenic tables. Music is played from CD. We strongly suggest you to taste the salads made by herbs brought from Kazdağı. Grilled bonito is among the favorite dishes of the restaurant.

İskele
İskele is located next to Çengelköy quay at the Anatolian side of the Bosphorus. Open weekdays between 13:00-15:00 and 18:00-24:00, weekends 13:00-24:00. Reservation is a must. Seafood casserole called Atom and grilled sea bass are the specialties.

İsmet Baba
İsmet Baba is in Kuzguncuk, the most beautiful district at the Anatolian Side of the Bosphorus, since 1951. It is open everyday from noon to 22:00. Reservation is required. Besides fish, rolled böreks are among the favorites.

Filiz
It is located in Tarabya, one of the most beautiful places at the European side of the Bosphorus. It is open everyday between 12:00-24:00. Reservation is needed. Fixed menu is offered for groups. The owner Ahmet Bekiroğlu personally deals with the customers. Fillet blue fish and eggplant salad are the specialties.

In my opinion the best fish restaurant is Deep Restaurant, found just off Iskital Cad in Taxsim. İt is friendly, has beautiful fresh fish and reasonably priced, 6 millıon for lunch and 9.90 for dinner.
