Fun Food

Children love finger food, and this is an easy way to bring some excitement to something as ordinary as a slice of cheese. Use a cookie cutter (or several different shapes) to cut out slices of cheese, bread, cucumber, salami, anything really. For example, using a gingerbread man shape you can cut out forms from bread (pre-sliced ‘Tost' bread works best) and make little sandwiches with your favorite fixing. Use animal shapes and decorate with thinly sliced carrots, peppers, olives, etc. Who knows, this might be an opportunity to get something wholesome into your picky eater! Old Fashioned Scones
Ingredients:
2 c. (450 g) Flour
3 tsp.(15 g) baking powder
2 Tbsp. (30 g) sugar
1/2 tsp.(2.5 g) salt
4 Tbsp. (60 grams) butter
2 eggs, beaten (reserve 1 Tbsp. egg white for brushing on top)
1/3 c.(84 ml) milk
2 tsp. (10 g) sugar
In a large bowl mix together the dry ingredients. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in eggs and milk until the dough is stiff.
Turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead slightly until dough is no
longer sticky. Divide into two parts. Roll each part out to make a circle about
6 inches in diameter and about 1 inch thick. With a knife cut each circle into
4 wedges.
Arrange on an ungreased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart. Brush tops of scones
with the egg white and sprinkle each wedge with a bit of the 2 tsp. of sugar.
Bake in 400°F (205°C) for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with your favorite topping.
