Ice cream Corners

When we were children ice cream was a food served only in summers. And the mothers for some reason or other were forcing their children to drink a glass of water afterwards avoid sickness. Since the ready-to-eat ice cream boxes began to fill the deep freezes in supermarkets we had the chance to eat ice cream all through the year. However summer is still the ice cream season.

The jury of daily Hürriyet Newspaper who are the gourmets, food authors and ice cream lovers chose the top 10 ice cream sellers in Turkey.

Ali Usta
Ali Usta is the first ice cream maker in Moda and it is an establishment of 33 years. The ice cream variation increases forty in summers. Ali Usta offers four kinds of diet ice cream besides mint, rume, almond, walnut and pistachio. There are always long queues in hot summer nights. Santa Maria is the most famous kind of ice cream in Ali Usta.

Güneş
Güneş was founded at Bebek Cevdet Paşa Caddasi in 1975 and offers eights kind of ice cream. Black mulberry, lemon and chocolate ice cream are the specialties. It is open everyday from 10:00 to 04:00.

Yaşar Pastanesi Mado
Mado is derived from the word Maraş Dondurma (ice cream - Maraş citiy is famous for its ice cream). Mado ice cream is produced in Maraş and transported to sale points in frigorific containers with -40 degrees. Mado sells its ice cream in franchising and has many branches countrywide. Yaşar Pastanesi is the symbol of a 300-year and 4-generation tradition. They produce around 75 kinds of ice cream and offer interesting variations such as apple, date, pomegranate, fig, carrot, pumpkin and spiced.

Mini
Mini is a very small shop at Bebek Cevdet Paşa Caddesi and was founded in 1968. It offers 18 kinds of ice cream and chestnut, caramel, pistachio and melon are the favorites among its customers.

Çeşme Apo'nun Yeri (Dondurmacı Veli Usta)
Apo'nun Yeri immediately recalls mastic (sakızlı) ice cream. Goat and sheep milk are used in the production of mastic ice cream and mastic is imported from Greece. It offers 30 kinds of ice cream and melon, croquant, caramel, mint and chestnut cocktail are the specialties. Apo is the first ice cream master of the site, however now master Veli runs it. Therefore it is known with two names. It has also a branch in ızmir and both shops are open everyday from 09:00 to 02:00

Reyhan Pastanesi
Reyhan pastry shop is located at Alsancak ızmir and has been producing ice cream since 1966. It offers 15 kinds of ice cream and uses the freshest fruit. Walnut, caramel, coffee, croquant and black mulberry are the specialties. The mulberries are specially collected from Ödemiş and Tire districts of İzmir.

Zeynel
Zeynel group was founded in 1925 and the shop located at Bağdat Caddesi, Caddebostan is the most popular one. It is famous for sorbets and offers 13 kinds of ice cream, 2 of which are dietary. Zeynel also has a branch in Ankara and is open until 02:00.

Hakiki Roma Dondurmacısı
This 33-year old brand serves in Yeşilköy with its two stores. It produces 20 kinds of ice cream and also offers four kinds of diabetic ice cream. Fruit and chestnut are the favorites and it is open until 01:00.

Kanaat Lokantası
This centennial restaurant at Üsküdar is also among the "Top 20" Turkish restaurants in Tukey. Ice cream season at Kanaat begins in April and continues until end summer. The creamey ice cream is produced in traditional methods and the orchis (sahlep) is from Yozgat while the milk is from Çekmeköy, Istabul. Only fresh fruits are used in fruit ice creams. It offers 10 kinds of ice cream and is open everyday for 10:00 to 23:00.

İtalyan Tipi Roma Dondurmacısı

It is located at Beşiktaş Barbaros Bulvari and was founded in 1962. Ice cream with hazelnut paste and tavukgöğsü are among the interesting variations of the 10 kinds of icecream the shop offers.. It is open everyday from 07:00 to 03:00.
