Internet Providers

Internet connections are made either by Türk Telekom or by private companies using Turk Telekom's communication lines. The addresses of companies providing Internet facilities and accessories that you may need either for your daily use at home or in the office can be found in our yellow pages. All you need to do is to download the program provided to you by those companies and to connect your computer to a phone line. In this case you would pay a pre-fixed rate to the company providing your Internet package and as well as the having to pay a monthly invoice which reflects charges to your phone line. For wide ranging usage you will need to purchase a modem (the Internet provider will recommend one) and request a data line from Türk Telekom. Most companies will make this request on your behalf. In this case you will pay the price of a modem, a monthly fee to the connecting company and again a monthly data line fee to Türk Telekom.

Internet connection services of Türk Telekom are either provided through phone lines or cable TV lines. For phone line connections you simply need to drop by a Türk Telekom office in your district and sign an agreement stating that you will pay a monthly or annual fee. You will determine a user name, password and an e-mail address. Since this is a new application it will take some time before you are able to use your new e-mail address, however there are no problems in accessing your Hotmail or Yanoo e-mail addresses. To satisfactorily complete all of the procedures you will need identification, an address and a fixed phone number. It should take about 40 minutes and may require wandering between 4 or 5 officials, within Türk Telekom building. By the next day at the Latest you can install and use your Internet connection. As of November 2001 annual payment for Internet connection through a phone line was 20.000.000 TL plus a monthly invoice for the phone line you are using for the connection.

Internet connection through a cable TV network (which is not available in every district) provides a faster connection speed and has the added bonus of not making your phone line busy when you are connected to the Internet. First, you will need to purchase a modem, which might cost about US $ 270 (VAT included). Then you'll pay an installment charge, approximately 22.000.000 TL and a monthly fee of 50.000.000 TL (new rates may apply). This cable TV e-connection is provided by the companies with whom Türk Telekom has agreements and such companies, operate within different districts in İstanbul. In districts having no cable network Türk Telekom will provide service via modem lines.

Addresses of the Companies providing Cable Internet Services are in Yellow Pages.
