Moms & Kids Corner

by Nicole Özturan

Welcome to our virtual meeting point for moms and children in Turkey!

Parenting is already one of life's great challenges; parenting in a foreign country brings about a whole new dimension. We'd like to provide a place of support where mothers can exchange information, practical tips, and have some fun in the process.

We hope you enjoy this section, and look forward to hearing personal stories and experiences from you, our members.

Hello, I´m helping out some friends to look for a native English Speaker, to talk to a baby (he is almost 1 yr.old) and play with him in English, 3-4 hours each day of the week(except weekends). The baby is an American citizen(born abroad), so the parents want to raise him bilingual. The baby already has a baby-sitter, and there is a cleaner at the house full time too, so this person will only be an ´English conversation buddy´ for the baby. They will pay a salary for this part time job.(It´s in Istanbul) Please contact me at 533-2844764 if you are interested, or email nidatozluklu@yahoo.com Thank you so much!

I was hoping to see something more about where to enroll my kids in school where they could be taught in English and helped to learn Turkish, or helpful links for homeschooling. Any suggestions?

Merhaba!!! Thank you for letting me be a member. I have not been a kid in Turkey since 1973. But I do remember. My first visit to Turkey was in 1968 I was 7 yrs old. My dad was in Izmir on Cigli Air base. I remember the nursery was across the street from our trailor so was the playground. And me and my dad would climb over the perimeter fence to fish in Izmir bay the gulf of Izmir. When dad was in Adana on Incirlik I was required to learn Turkish in school because it was the language of the host nation. I still remember alot of words in Turkish my spelling isn´t so good. Thanx for letting me share this little bit I will share much more. Elveda, Abee in Columbia SC
