Jogging Routes in Turkey

With the sunny and warm weather, the time for jogging has arrived. In addition to keeping you fit, jogging is a necessity to escape the stress of daily life, to enjoy nature, to breath some fresh air and to spend a few beautiful hours. Composed of sportsmen, jogging lovers, physicians and local authorities, the jury of the daily Hürriyet Newspaper has selected the ideal jogging routes in major cities.

Dalyan-Bostancı Coast
This is one of the best-organized jogging routes in Istanbul. You can reach Dalyan by walking down the street next to Fenerbahçe Orduevi. The first three kilometers of the route, between Dalyan and Caddebostan, is isolated from the highway and surrounded by wide green grounds and there are special paths for jogging and biking. The route goes along the seaside to Bostancı then on to Pendik. You can fill your need for food and water from the peddlers lined at the roadside.

Fenerbahçe Park
This Park is green, peaceful and located at the seaside. It is certainly a pleasure to walk and run in. The natural scene of the park is people attempting aerobics and jogging. The grass here is ideal for those who are tired. Benches and cafés are other alternatives for a rest. Not only the residents of Fenerbahçe but people from several parts of Kadıköy walk or run here. Moreover, a moonlight stroll at Fenerbahçe Park is not to be missed.

Karşıyaka - Bostanlı Recreation Area
Karşıyaka – Bostanlı coast is a part of the new shore arrangement of the Gulf of İzmir. This route was converted to a green parkland of 160 sq.mt. two years ago. The park has basketball fields, tennis courts, skateboarding areas, jogging and biking paths, fitness apparatus, and wooden sites for children and picnic areas. In addition to the 2-kilometer coast built from 6-meter-wide marble blocks, there is also a jogging route of 1.6 km. Hundreds of residents can be found here as soon as the sun rises. The cafés along the route belong to the Municipality.

Dilberler Sekisi
Dilberler Sekisi is a 5 km. jogging route in Adana. It is located between the Adana Seyhan Dam and the old dam. Residents of all ages walk here between the giant eucalyptus and pine trees. There are mobile teahouses and börek sellers. An ambulance belonging to the provincial Health Department is in service every day. There is not sufficient parking space near the path and therefore cars are left either at the Beyaz Evler pine grove or on the streets near Ortadoğu hospital.

Belgrade Forest
There is a 6.5 km long walking path in the forest called “Live Young Route”. There are seventeen fitness points. They give advice for beginners, for people in shape and for sportsmen. There are programs for strengthening the circulation system and the muscles and to gain flexibility. You can also have your pulse checked in certain points along the Belgrade Forest route.

OR-AN Jogging Park
This is the first choice of Ankara residents among walking routes. It is in the ODTÜ forest and fitness apparatus are at your service at the beginning and at the end of the road. There is also a biking route. The car parking lot is sufficient. The path is 2.5 km long and mostly preferred by politicians.

Yıldız Parkı
Yıldız Parkı, located between Beşiktaş and Ortaköy, is a real hidden treasure in the heart of the city. Walking paths are either dirt or asphalt. During weekdays there are numerous people walking, jogging or running here; however, with the contribution of picnickers, it is crowded at weekends. Çadır and Malta Kiosks are ideal places for those who want some rest. Driving into the park is allowed because the area is hilly and to allow old people to benefit from the facilities.

Büyükada
It takes 35 and 70 minutes to reach Büyükada by boat (ferry) from Bostancı and Sirkeci respectively. Jogging in Büyükada is done along the route of the fayton (horse-drawn carriages). There are two routes you can follow: the shorter one is 5 ml long while the long tour is 12 km. The route of short tour is as follows: İskele Square, Cankaya Avenue, Nizam Road, Dilburni, Yörükali Lunapark and Maden. The long tour can be taken by walking to the southern point of the island and returning. Those who don't wish to walk along with faytons can climb the steep slope behind Büyükada Emniyet Amirliği (Büyükada Security Directorate) and reach Aşıklar Yolu (Lovers's Path). Lunapark and Aşıklar Tea Garden are the spots where you can have a break along the way.

Kültürpark
Kültürpark is the largest green parkland in İzmir and resembles a botanical garden with its numerous plants and trees. The route is suitable to the standards and is an ideal jogging site with limited car traffic. There is no admission other than for those who wear sports clothes. The route is 1,850 meters long and 3.40 meters wide. There are two spots where you can benefit from step, twist, bar fix, dips and condition equipment facilities.

Eymir Parkuru
Eymir Lake is the place where residents of Ankara visit on weekends. The shoreline of the lake is 24 km long in the north-south direction and 17 km long in the east-west direction. This jogging route around the lake meets Ankara's resting, entertainment and sports demands and presents a unique atmosphere in Ankara with its natural life.
