Küçüksu Kasrı, also known as Göksu Palace, takes its name from the streams that flow from the hills into the Bosphorus near this small palace or pavilion.
The area attracted the attention of Sultan Murat IV at 17th century with its stunning natural beauty. The first buildings appeared in the early 18th century. Sultan Abdülmecit I had the existing pavilion built as a summer residence in the middle of 19th century. The architect is Nigos Balyan, one of the members of famous Balyan family.
This four-story pavilion (including basement) was restored from time to time. Küçüksu can be considered as a unique art museum with its relief-ornamented ceilings, different colored and shaped fireplaces made of valuable Italian marble, European style furniture, and mirrors with Abdülmecid's monograms, Hereke carpets and prayer rugs and finally precious paintings. It was also used as a state guest house after the establishment of Turkish Republic.
