Kalbur Restaurant

You may easily turn up your nose upon first seeing this restaurant, which doesn't even have a sign on its door. However, incredible tastes are inside waiting for you. The only decoration is 8-10 tables, and rare Atatürk pictures on the walls. The specialty of this restaurant is "the Taste". Grilled meatballs, içli köfte, pastırma, sucuk, tandır, kokoreç, stuffed leaves are all names familiar to us. Then what is the difference? "All dishes are made of fish!!"

If you are among those who ask "Why wouldl I eat fish in a city without a sea?", visit Kalbur as soon as possible. Naturally, that is, if you can find an empty table! You need to make a reservation for weekdays three or four days in advance, while a week prior reservation is recommended for weekends.

It is wise to leave the decision to Mehmet Bey, manager, when ordering your dishes, seeing as how you don't have any other choice. You mostly eat what Mehmet Bey serves you, instead of what you may choose. Please also keep in mind that he is a little bit crabby! If you don't finish the food you order, he makes a long, frowning face. Don't forget to taste the grilled meatballs made of shrimp. If they find it appropriate to serve you dessert, don't refuse. Although rakı is the traditional drink to accompany fish; Kalbur's new wine cellar is worth trying.

Kalbur also sets tables in front of the building in the summer and when the weather permits. It is closed on Mondays and credit cards are not accepted.
