Kapalıçarşı Stores

Julia´s Kitchen
Untitled Document Kapalıçarşı, founded on a site with an area of 47.600 sq.m and having 3600 stores, is the world's biggest shopping center. The recently renovated façade of Kapalıçarşı attracts the attention not only of tourists but also of normal Istanbul residents. We have listed some of its newer cafés and extraordinary stores for you:

İsmail Akşahin, manager of Cafeist, has six stores on Takkeciler Street and he comes from a family who has been working here for more than 40 years. Cafeist has an atmosphere that is both modern and oriental. Düğün kebabı (wedding kebap) is the favorite dish of the café.

The newest site on Keseciler Caddesi is Julia's Kitchen. Herman Mutlu and his aunt Julia Mutlu run it. They also own some other shops on the same avenue. Julia cooks meals for lunch and cookies for teatime. The meals are good samples of Turkish cuisine such as vegetables with olive oil. Warm vegetables and Turkish sweets are always on the menu. Breakfast is also available.

Baret Saraf, who has been Çarşı's silversmith for 26 years, has opened Café Sultan on Halıcılar Caddesi with his wife Erlin Saraf. They are famous for their salads, served with various special sauces. Café Wien cakes and sandwiches are also among the favorites of the site.

Fes Cafe is the most interesting site in Kapalıçarşı. Metin Tosun opened it six years ago and it is surely a wonder of design! Famous French designer Philippe Starck's original sculpture-like designs are around everywhere. Every chair is different from the next. The store next to the café is called Hamam and sells hamam-related products. These include loincloths, towels, daisy soaps, rose, lavender and bay scents, kese, copper hamam bowls, floormats, and bed cloths made of leather and fur. This shop also belongs to Metin Tosun.

American Linda Caydwell opened Deli Kızın Yeri at Halıcılar Çarşısı 42. She uses traditional Turkish designs and fabrics. Handmade cloth dolls, needle-lace ornaments, coasters, dresses, clasps, and earrings are all produced at her workshop in Arnavutköy.

Sivaslı İstanbul Yazmacısı is one of the oldest drapery shops in Kapalıçarşı. It is located at Yağlıkçılar Caddesi 7. Besides hand-woven fabrics you can find any kind of cloth here. Just ask the owner Murat Haşhaş, he can obtain any fabric or textile product; even if he has to create it for you!!!
