Neyhane
by Michele Tengizman
For those who wish to enjoy "alla turca" entertainment in a youthful and comfy atmosphere, Neyhane is a very appropriate choice. "Neyhane" means a house where a reed flute is played, and it rhymes with "Meyhane."
"Alla turca" entertainment can be described as eating various kinds of mezes, drinking rakı, dancing and singing popular Turkish songs en masse.
An orchestra of young conservatory students performs well-known Turkish songs, with the accompaniment of the diners, from 21:30 to 01:00. CDs of Turkish pop music are played after 02:00.
Neyhane has a fixed menu with fourteen cold and four hot mezes, plus a main course (meat, chicken or fish), salad, fruit and one of a small bottle of wine, half of a small bottle of Rakı, or two bottles of beer. This menu was 25.000.000 TL/ person when we went there in May. The price increases to 35.000.000 if you want unlimited drinks. Both the mezes and the main dishes are very delicious and especially the hot mezes were well prepared.
