The objects kept in the depots of National Palaces in Istanbul are now on display at a new museum at Dolmabahçe Palace. The former kitchen of the palace was reorganized to serve as a museum and named Palace Collections Museum.
Palace Collections Museum is hosting 43000 out of 70000 objects that were locked in the depots. Around 5000 objects including manuscripts, prayer rugs, early film projectors, crystals, embroidered tablecloths, children’s dresses, and gold-plated diner services are on display.
Artifacts, exhibiting the life style and daily life in palaces, were collected from Dolmabahce, Beylerbeyi and Yıldız Palaces and Aynalıkavak, Küçüksu, Ihlamur and Malsak Mansions.
The items in the museum belong to periods of the last six Ottoman Sultans as well as Atatürk and his successor Ismet İnönü.
The entrance of the museum is designated to serve as an art gallery and will host exhibitions.
The museum can be visited everyday from 09:00 to 17:00, except on Mondays and Thursdays.
