Pizzerias

Untitled Document Bakers in Naples created a simple food by putting some ingredients over a thin crust 250 years ago. This special taste attracted the attention of the nobles, especially Queen Margherita (1851-1926), who loved this food called pizza prepared with tomatoes, mozzarella and parsley. Carries the three colors of the Italian flag, green, red and white, pizza became the symbol of the country and began to be known as "Pizza Margherita".

Today there are many kinds of pizza, with seafood, vegetarian ingredients or with various delicatessen foods. The jury of the daily newspaper "Hürriyet", who are gourmets, food authors and pizza lovers, chose the top 10 Pizzerias in April 2004.

Mezzaluna, Istanbul
Mezzaluna was opened in Teşvikiye in March 1995. Mezzaluna means "half moon" in Italian, and the restaurant is decorated with half-moon shapes. The restaurant offers 21 kinds of pizza together with a rich wine menu. Mezzaluna Pizza has cold cut meat, mushroom, grilled eggplant, mozzarella and tomato sauce. The pizzas are cooked in a wood-burning oven and the varieties with seafood and prosciutto are among the favorites. It is open everyday between 12:00 and 22:30. Reservation is required.

Spazio
Spazio is located in the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Taksim. Italian Saulo Bacchilega is the chef. The pizzas are prepared at the counter in front of the customers and baked in a wood-burning oven. The pizzas are served according to the customer's request, meaning that the number of varieties is unlimited. The restaurant has a capacity of 120 people. The green garden hosts customers in summer. It is open every day between 19:00 and 23:00, except Sundays.

Il Piccolo
It is in Caddebostan, Kadıköy and famous for its crispy thin crust and its Chicago-style thick-crust pizzas. They use three kinds of crust: Calzone, a half-moon shape called "covered pizza", thin and pan. The customers create their own pizza with the ingredients. The favorite is Pizza Beach, which is made of 'sucuk' sausage, sausage, mushroom, green pepper and mozzarella. Il Piccolo has a dining room indoors with a capacity of 75 people and an open-air place with a capacity of 50. It is open every day between 11:00 and 24:00.

Lokanta
Lokanta is on Meşrutiyet Caddesi, Tepebaşı and is famous for its Mediterranean food. There are six kinds of pizza and Karamelize (caramelized) and Chevre are the favorites. Karamelize is composed of basil, goat's cheese, onion, fresh herbs and tomatoes. The crust contains bran and is baked in a wood-burning oven. The restaurant has a capacity of 70, and reservation is required. It is open every day, except Sunday, between 12:00 and 15:00 and from 19:00 to 01:00.

Papermoon
Papermoon, an international restaurant chain, is at Akmerkez, Etiler and is famous for its interesting decoration and delicious pizzas. The menu consists of 15 kinds of pizza and every day a different kind of pizza called "Pizza of the Day" is baked. The garden is open in summer. Reservation is required for dinner. It is open everyday between 12:00 and 24:00.

Güverte
Güverte is in Moda, Kadıköy, but unfortunately does not have sea view. A sea concept is used in the decoration to suit its name since Güverte means "deck" in Turkish. The favorite kind of pizza, Güverte, is made of kaşar cheese, shrimp, calamari, tuna fish, green pepper and onion. Customers can also create their own pizza. The site has a capacity of 35 and also has a garden with a further capacity of 35 people. It is open on weekdays between 11:00 and 24:00, on Saturday between 10:00 and 24:00 and on Sunday. Delivery service is available.

Venedik Pizza
The first Venedik Pizza was opened in Alsancak, Izmir 25 years ago, and then one year later the second was opened in Bostanlı. The flour is from Konya while the sausages, salami and sucuk are from Şütte, Istanbul. The crust is 4 millimeters thick. The menu consists of 26 kinds of pizza. The favorite is pizza con pepperoni el funghi with tomato sauce, mozzarella, cold cut meat, salami, sausages, egg, mushrooms, green peppers and black olives. The pizzas with seafood, tuna fish, salmon, mussels and calamari are also among the favorites.

Mezzaluna, Ankara
Mezzaluna Restaurants in Gaziosmanpaşa and Bilkent were decorated by Florentine architect Roberto Magris. Reputedly the pizzas of Ankara Mezzaluna are more delicious than the pizzas of Istanbul Mezzaluna. The pizzas prepared by Italian chef Daniel Evangelista have thin crusts and are baked in a wood-burning oven. Mezzaluna offers 25 kinds of pizza. The pizzas are served within five minutes of the order. Italian delicatessen products such as Neapolitan salami, Parma and Cotto ham are used. It is open everyday from 12:00 to 24:00.

Pizza Pizza
Pizza Pizza was founded in 1995 and has 48 branches throughout Turkey. All products are produced according to the rules of TSE (Turkish Standards Institute) at the plant in Torbalı, Izmir and delivered to the branches. Pizza Pizza aims to increase the number of branches in Turkey to 300. The menu consists of 10 kinds of pizza. The sizes are small, medium, large and jumbo, and pizza slices are also available.
