There is an interesting village hidden in İstanbul and it is called Polonezköy (Polish Village), formerly called Adampol. It is a real Polish village that was founded in the 19th century by Polish Prince Adam Czartoryski under special permission of Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid I, for the purpose of housing exiles. Polonezköy has been transformed into a relaxing vacation area complete with guest houses and restaurants which serve a delicious selection of fresh local food. Inland from the coast, the rolling hills and peaceful woods make excellent ground for horseback riding and this area is also a favorite among hunters.
Polonezköy is famous for its cherry and if you visit the village in June you'll have the chance to taste and buy them.
Although most of the young population migrated to the big cities, Polonezköy still possesses many of its Polish characteristics. The villagers are known for their hospitality and some small restaurants still cook traditional Polish food. It's worth a try.
Please note that public transportation to Polonezköy is not available.
