The jury of the daily Hürriyet Newspaper, composed of gourmets and of famous names, usually break their fast at different places due to their business and, therefore have opinions about various restaurants. In 2003, they have selected the best restaurants in Turkey which offer Iftar menus.
Hünkar
Hünkar was founded in Fatih in 1950 and moved to Nişantaşı three years ago.
Hünkar also has a branch in Etiler. It is famous for its homemade dishes. Paça
çorbası (trotter soup), hünkar beğendi (meat with eggplant purée),
quince stew, hamsili pilav (pilaf with anchovies) and irmik helvası
are among the specialties to be tasted. They offer an à la carte iftar menu
and also cook the dishes you prefer should you order in advance. Reservation
is required.
Divan
This restaurant opened in 1956 alongside the Hotel and serves in its lobby.
They offer two kinds of set menu for İftar. The capacity is 50. Reservation
is required during Ramadan. There is no parking problem. Divan also prepares
whatever dishes you like for Iftar, if you order in advance. Credit cards are
accepted.
Kanaat
This 100-year-old restaurant at Üsküdar Square is open 24 hours a day during
the month of Ramadan. Reservation is required for Iftar. Elbasan tava,
sac kavurma (meat roasted on iron plates) and kuzu büryan (lamb
meat with pilaf) are the specialties. Artichoke with olive oil and quince dessert
are suggested for Iftar. Credit cards are not accepted.
Darüzziyafe
Opened at Süleymaniye Mosque Külliye twelve years ago, this restaurant offers
traditional Ottoman-Turkish cuisine to its customers. There are various menu
alternatives for groups. Sufi music and live Turkish music accompanies the Iftar
meal. Sema (whirling dervishes) shows can be arranged for groups upon
request. Strongly recommended for Iftar are elbasan tava, Manisa kebap, keşkek
kebap and hünkar beğendi (literally "The Sultan enjoyed it"
- meat with eggplant purée). Sakızlı muhallebi (pudding with mastic)
and aşure are the most preferred desserts. The capacity is 850 and credit
cards are accepted. Reservation is required for Iftar.
Hacı Abdullah
Abdullah Efendi fonded this restaurant in 1888, during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamit
II, Hünkar beğendi, shank of lamb with eggplant, kuzu tandır (lamb
meat baked in a special kind of oven), iç pilav and compote are strongly
suggested. The menu changes everyday and 130 different kinds of food are served
everyday. Credit cards are accepted and the place has a capacity of 180.
Hacıbaba
55 years ago, Hacı Sabri Baday opened this restaurant, which was first famous
for its baklava. It has been serving customers on the Ankara-Konya highway for
six years. There is a rich Iftar menu. Live Sufi music is played during Iftar.
Reservation is required for the restaurant which has a capacity of 2000.
Kaşıbeyaz
It is located in Florya and has been in service for 17 years. A set menu is
offered during Ramadan and it consists of an İftar plate (date, honey, olives,
cream and sucuk), soup, salad, a cheese plate, Antep dolma, pickles, lahmacun,
kebap and various kinds of meat, sweets, soft drinks, tea and coffee. Kebap
with vegetables and künefe (warm kadayıf with cheese) are among the most preferred
dishes. Reservation is required during Ramadan. Credit cards are accepted and
it has a capacity of 800.
Beyti
Beyti was founded in 1945 and moved in 1970 to its new location in Florya with
11 halls, 3 terraces and five kitchens. It has a capacity of 450. Beyti offers
a rich Iftar menu including an iftar plate, su böreği, soup, salad, mixed
grilled meat, various kinds of desserts, ayran, soft drinks, tea and Turkish
coffee. It is closed on Mondays. Credit cards are accepted.
Anadolu Sofrası
Locatede in Adana, this restaurant offers selected dishes from Eastern and Southern
Anatolia cuisine. Rib dolma from Diyarbakır, perde pilaf from Siirt,
elbasan tava from Batman, çoban kavurma (roasted meat, tomatoes
onions and green peppers) from Mardin and lahmacun with peppers from
Şanlıurfa are among the specialties. There are 41 kinds of dishes on the Ramadan
menu. Credit cards are accepted and reservation is required.
Izmir Hilton
The Colonnade restaurant within the Hilton Hotel organizes a special program
during Ramadan: İftar menu, a rich open buffet, limited soft drinks, and live
traditional Turkish music. There are four set menu alternatives for groups.
The restaurant has a capacity of 132 and reservation is required. Credit cards
are accepted.

Hacı Salih
Traditional Turkish dishes are offered at Iftar.
Çiftlik Lokantası
It is in Atatürk Orman Çiftliği and was first constructed as a kitchen for Atatürk
in 1929. There are four kinds of set menu at Iftar.
