With its underground thermal water sources, Turkey is among the top seven countries in regards to the flow, temperature, physical and chemical characteristics and potentiality of its thermal waters. There are various facilities at more than one thousand thermal sources with temperatures varying from 20°C to 110°C.
The jurors of the daily newspaper "Hürriyet", who are physical therapists, travelers, guides and geothermal specialists, have chosen the best thermal centers in Turkey.
Please note that the top 10 spa centers were selected not according to their healing traits but according to their hygiene, conformation of equipment, decoration and ease of access. It is strongly recommended that those suffering heart, kidney or liver failure, tumors, hepatitis, nephritis, ulcer etc. consult a doctor before attending one.
Termal Resort Oruçoğlu
This 4-star thermal resort is on the 14th kilometer of the Afyon-Kütahya highway.
The water is composed of sodium bicarbonate, chlorine and fluoride. The natural
temperature is 49°. The resort has a capacity of 330 rooms with 800 beds. There
are three indoor and one outdoor thermo-mineral pools, 26 private baths and
thermo-mineral water in all rooms. The resort has an advanced laboratory with
a medical team. The water has positive effects on gastrointestinal illnesses,
rheumatism, psoriasis and dermatological illnesses, disorder of kidneys and
urethra and some gynecological disorders. Massage therapy is also provided.
Ikbal Thermal Hotel & Spa
Ikbal is a five-star hotel located on the 9th kilometer of the Afyon - Izmir
highway. The spa water consists of sodium bicarbonate, and its temperature is
35.5°. The hotel has 284 rooms with 750 beds. There are two indoor and one outdoor
thermo-mineral pools, 10 private baths, 4 saunas and 2 Turkish baths. A permanent
medical staff from Afyonkarahisar Kocatepe University is present. The diseases
the thermal water is used for are neurological diseases such as nerve aches
and palsies like neuralgia and paralyses. When it is drunk, it cures hyperacidity
in the stomach and regulates movement disorders in intestines.
Kervansaray Thermal Hotel
Kervansaray is a five-star hotel in Bursa. It offers three pools, two of which
are thermal. The capacity of the hotel is 211 rooms with 435 beds. The temperature
of the thermal water is 44°. The spa has two separate sections for women and
men. The water is rich in bicarbonate and calcium. Turkish bath and massage
are also available. The bath has positive effects on rheumatism, chronic painful
gynecological disorders and arteriosclerosis. Furthermore, drinking this water
helps to overcome liver and gall disorders, light diabetes and gout.
The Sheraton Çeşme
The five-star Sheraton Çeşme Hotel is on the Ilıca coast, 6 kilometers from
Çeşme and 85 kilometers west of Izmir. The hotel provides 373 rooms with 950
beds, two indoor thermal pools and one outdoor thermal pool, sauna, Turkish
bath, steam bath, beauty and solarium centers, private baths for 1 to 3 persons,
massage and mud therapy. Among the staff are a doctor, nurse, masseur, beautician
and sports trainers.
Yoncalı Tütav Thermal Hotel
The hotel is located in the Yoncalı district of Kütahya. The water contains
23 radioactive elements. It is recommended for the healing of rheumatism and
dermatological diseases, and for beauty. A Turkish bath, sauna, Jacuzzi, mud
baths, paraffin baths, herbal baths, cellulite massages and a fitness center
are among the facilities of the hotel. This four-star hotel has two indoor thermal
pools, seven private thermal baths and thermal bathtubs in 73 rooms. Doctor
and medical staff are available.
Yalova Thermal Facilities
Termal hot springs are 12 km away from Yalova and located within a forest. There
are various historical baths and the temperature is 62°. Historical Kurşunlu
Bath has a sauna and outdoor pool. The spring has healing effects on disorders
of the digestive system, metabolism and rheumatism. Çınar and Çamlık Hotels
together have a capacity of 202 beds.
Gönlüferah Hotel
This three-star hotel is in the Çekirge neighborhood of Bursa and has 70 rooms
with 140 beds. The hotel provides private thermal pools designed in Turkish
bath style. The water consists of bicarbonate, sulfate, sodium, calcium, carbon
dioxide and sulfur. The baths have healing effects on rheumatism, painful gynecological
disorders and arteriosclerosis. When it is drunk, it helps to overcome liver
and gall disorders, gall, light diabetes and gout.
Gönen Thermal Hotels
A complex near Gönen Creek called Gönen Kaplıcaları, it consists of four hotels:
Park Otel (57 rooms with 118 beds), Güneş Hotel (57 rooms with 114 beds), Yeşil
Otel (72 rooms with 156 beds) and Derman Hotel (42 rooms with 78 beds). The
temperature of the thermal water is 78° and it contains sulfide, chlorine, bicarbonate
and sodium. When drunk, the water heals liver, gall and kidney disorders. The
baths have healing effects on rheumatism, painful gynecological disorders and
arteriosclerosis.
Kızılcahamam Thermal Facilities
The facilities are located 75 km away from Ankara and consist of four hot springs
called Büyük Spa, Küçük Spa, Acısu Spa and Kızılcahamam Maden Suyu (Mineral
Water) Spa. The Büyük and Küçük thermal springs are hypothermal and hypotonic,
Acısu spring is isothermal and hypotonic and Kızılcahamam Maden Suyu Spa is
thermal and hypotonic. The water is used both for bathing and for drinking.
It has positive effects on liver and gall disorders, defects of the gastrointestinal,
heart and circulation systems and rheumatism. The spa has two pools.
Balçova Agamemnon Spa
It is located at the historical site Agamemnon west of Balçova, 8 kilometers
away from downtown Izmir. It is a member of the European Spas Association. The
medical staff consists of 10 doctors, 25 physiotherapists, 16 masseur and masseuses,
124 nurses and 5 laboratory assistants. The temperature of the spa varies between
45° and 180° with hyperthermal and hypotonic characteristics. The water contains
chlorine, bicarbonate, sodium, calcium, carbon dioxide and fluoride. It has
healing effects on rheumatism, disorders of the digestive, nervous and circular
systems, metabolism, and liver, gall and heart diseases.
