Syriac Churches

Syriacs, have in the past inhabited Mardin and Midyat (South-east Anatolia), but due to the recent migrations, most of them now live in Istanbul. The Syriac Orthodox use Meryem Ana Kilisesi (Virgin Mary Church) at Tarlabaşı for their services. However, since it is not large enough, the Catholic Church gave them permission to use their churches at Moda, Bakırköy, Yeşilköy and Kumkapı. The Sacre Coeur church in Ayazpaşa is the center for Syriac Catholics. Today there are still active monasteries and churches in Mardin, Deyr Ül Zaferan, and Deyr Ül Umur (Mor Gabriel).
Meryem Ana Süryani Kilisesi (Virgin Mary Syriac Church)
This is the only church built by Syriacs. They generally rent or borrow churches
from the Catholic sect. This church was built with stones brought from Mardin,
the center of Syriacism and has an administrative section and school.
