The Blue City of Ms. Who

Mavişehir, translated into English means 'Blue City'. To me, it means Peace, Tranquility, Happiness and Home.
Mavişehir is a typical Turkish town by the sea with traditional restaurants on the harbor, a lively market and the sounds from the mosque reaching out over the skies.
My name is Kym but as I quickly found out, kim here means 'who' so now I am known as Ms Who! I found myself here by accident, or fate dependent on what you believe in. On looking for a last minute holiday, I found 2 weeks in Altinkum, a place I'd never heard of before at a bargain price, how could I resist? 2 days later, my 18-year-old son and myself were traveling in a mini bus along the unmade roads of Turkey on our way to The Grand Didyma Hotel. It was dark when we arrived and the town of Didım was bursting with life. I was expecting a place similar to Fuengerola but, with its sights, sounds and smells, it reminded me very much of Egypt.
The news in the UK was that Turkey was the up and coming property hotspot, so I thought while I was here I may as well take a look. Having been virtually kidnapped by the Estate Agent and dragged around one too many apartments that I had no desire to see, he finally took me to view a refurbished villa in Mavişehir with fantastic views of the sea and away from the hustle and bustle of Altinkum. It was love at first sight!
Leaving these shores was torture and back in the UK I moped around for a week, gazing out of the window watching the rainfall from an ever-darkening sky. Eventually, I managed to drag my head out of my Turkish Paradise and put it to work packing up. I hadn't left much time to pack away a whole lifetime, so I enlisted the help of my good friends who, as usual, came to the rescue armed with cardboard boxes, brown tape and logical ideas.
That was only 4 months ago but it feels like a lifetime. Winter is upon us and in Altinkum, the tourists have left with their cases and their tears. Most of the clubs and restaurants have closed and newly engaged waiters and barmen have returned to their families and mums cooking. Ramazan has been and gone, Şeker Bayram has just finished and my son has returned to the UK to line his pockets with enough money to last all next season. Mavişehir remains the peaceful haven of god given beauty it was when I arrived here. Hopefully, that will never change.
And me? Well I may travel around this country, but I'll never leave it, not even in a box!
