This Weekend in Istanbul

March 23-25, 2018

The American Drama Group Europe, Europe’s leading professional touring theatre company,  will be performing Shakespeare's immortal love story Romeo & Juliet in Istanbul on March 23 and 24, 2018. The Drama Group has been performing in all corners of the globe from China to Costa Rica, from Stockholm to Palermo, from the Isle of Man to Moscow for 40 years. The performances will take place at Kenter Theater, Harbiye. Show times:

Sahne Pulchérie , the performance venue of  Sainte Pulchérie French High School, is hosting French writer Rémi de Vos' play "West" on March 24 at 20:30. West, will be performed by  Kirpi Tiyatro.  The play tells the story of a couple  examining the far-right in Europe and exploring how the rise can transform ordinary people. The play is in Turkish with surtitles in French. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix,  from the Lamelif bookstore opposite the school on Çukurluçeşme Sokak and on the door after 18:30 on the day of the performance.

As part  of Istanbul Philharmonic Association concerts Ezgi Yürümez (violin) will perform at Aynalı Geçit, Beyoğlu on Saturday  at 16:00. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.  For more information please call 444 5418.

Following a 20-year-adventure of art, award-winning artist Alev Araslı  will meet with art lovers at her third solo exhibition "Organics" at Gallery FE . In this exhibition Araslı is combining the delicate but strong structure of porcelain not only with light and wood but also with  precious elements such as copper, gold and platinum. Notre Dame de Sion French High School is hosting "Kilimin Sembolleri - Symbols of Rugs" exhibition until May 19.. The exhibition is mainly inspired by the book written by Ahmet Diler & Marc-Antoine Gallice and aims to unveil the symbolic language in motifs of kilims. Ürün Art Gallery in Göztepe, Kadıköy is hosting Kedidir Kedi - Only Cat group exhibition until March 24. The exhibition is composed of cat works of 17 artists including Ayten Taşpınar,  Canan Bilge, Gülden Günaydın, Niyazi Toptoprak and Serap Atala. One of the world's biggest dance companies Fire of Anatolia's (Anadolu Ateşi) Children Dance Troupe Spark (Kıvılcım)  is on stage with 80 children aged between 4-12. The show will take place at MOI Sahne, Mall of Istanbul on  on Sunday at 16:30. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.

Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Can Okan, will perform at Fulya Art Center  )  on Friday at 20:00. Soloists : Damla Tuncer (oboe), Timuçin Abacı (trumpet). Program: A. Marcello, J.B.G. Neruda, L. van Beethoven.

Istanbul State Opera and Ballet will perform Don Quixote, L. Minkus' two-act ballet at Süreyya Opera House on  Friday at 20:00. Debussy 100th Anniversary concert will take place at Grand Pera Emek Stage on Saturday at 20:00. Selected Cavatina concert is at Yeldeğirmeni Sanat on Saturday at 19:30.

Flute & Jazz Piano Trio is at Arsu Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi, Fenerbahçe on Saturday at 18:00. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.

Nardis Jazz Club, Galata is hosting Flapper Swing on Friday at 22:30. Dolunay Obruk Quartet will take stage on Saturday at 22:30.

Akustik Bişeyler trio is   at Jazz Company, Elite World Istanbul Hotel on Friday at 22:00. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.

Jazz in Breakfast: Sait Halim Paşa Waterfront in Yeniköy is hosting  Başak Yavuz Quintet on Sunday. Jazz in Breakfast with Siemens event begins with open-buffet breakfast at 10:30 and continues with the jazz concert at 11:15-13:30.

Jazz at Yeldeğirmeni Sanat, Kadıköy is hosting Asena Akan Trio on  Friday at 20:30. Tickets can be purchased at Yeldeğirmeni Sanat box office.

Electronic music composer and producer Başak Günak’s project Ah! Cosmos is at Salon IKSV, Şişhane on Friday at 22:00. In Hoodies "Circling The Cage" launch concert is on Saturday at 22:30.

Kidzania at Acıbadem AkAsya Shopping Mall,  kids will learn about earning money by working, making their own decisions, shopping. Shortly, they can experience being an adult in a real city. Sessions: 10:00 and 15:30.

Trump shopping mall is hosting  KidzMondo, (the first Kids’ City of Turkey). Children ages between 4-14 can work in 40 different professions  and earn money. They enter the city via airport and select a profession and start to work. Sessions: Friday at 15:00, Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 and 15:30.

Gayrettepe Metro Station is hosting "Dialogue in Silence Istanbul" . Dialogue in Silence is an experience in total silence where participants discover a repertoire of non-verbal expression with the help of deaf and hearing impaired guides and trainers. Participants enter an area of complete silence wearing noise-cancelling headsets, and experience an environment that helps them discover openness, empathy and an enhanced power of concentration. ”. Dialogue in Silence enables a dialogue between hearing and non-hearing people while re-defining disability as ability. Visiting hours: 10:00-19:00. Duration 60 minutes.

Gayrettepe Metro Station is hosting “Dialogue in the Dark Istanbul”,  which offers you an incredible experience to understand daily life of blind people.  The concept of Dialogue in the Dark is simple: visitors are lead by blind guides in groups through specially constructed dark rooms in which scent, sound, wind, temperature and texture convey the characteristics of daily environments – for example a park, a city, a boat cruise or a bar. The daily routines become a new experience. Over the last twenty years Dialogue in the Dark has been presented in more than 30 countries and 130 cities throughout the world since its opening in 1988.  English tours:  Friday at 18:00, Saturday at 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00, Sunday at 14:00 and 16:00.

Gayrettepe Metro Station is also hosting “Turkcell Football in the Dark”, an exhibition and workshop to explore the unseen.  Football in the Dark offers the players an incredible experience to understand the daily life of blind people. The participants will also support Blind Football. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix. Time:  Saturday  10:00-19:00, Sunday 12:00-19:00 (with 30-minute intervals).

Jurassic Land at Forum İstanbul Shopping Mall, attracts the attention of all age groups with its museum, 3D theater, laboratory where visitors both learn and have fun, show garden and  shop that is selling special dinosaur concept objects. Weekend visiting hours – 10:00-20:00.

Snowpark in Haramidere Torium AVM is offering Snow Tubing with nine courses and Snow Rafting with 135-meter-long ski-run.

Vialand Theme Park, Eyüp is open between 11:00 and 20:00 on the weekend.

Istanbul Aquarium, Florya can be visited everyday between 10:00 and 20:00.
