This Weekend in Istanbul

February 24-26, 2017


The 16th !f Istanbul Independent Film Festival (Bağımsız Filmler Festivali) continues on the weekend. "Healing Things" is the motto of this year's festival.

Amadeus, the Miloš Forman classic that tells the story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart through the eyes of Antonio Salieri, was a film that gained great acclaim, winning 8 Oscars in 1985 including Best Picture and Best Director, as well as 4 BAFTA Awards and 4 Golden Globes. The incredible story of the legendary composer is brought to life in Zorlu PSM on 24 and 25 February 2017 with Movies In Concert: Amadeus, which features a unique live performance of the sublime music that accompanies the screening of the film. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.

February 24 at 21:00
February 25 at 20:00.

Motobike Istanbul is Turkey’s only International Motorcycle, Bicycle, and Accessories Exhibition. Motorcycle and bicycle fans expectantly await this fair, which will be held for the ninth time in Istanbul Expo Center on the weekend. In addition to motorcycles and bicycles, a full range of products were displayed at the exhibition including helmets, protective clothing, goggles, coats, gloves, boots, tires, modification and performance kits, specialty lubricants, additives and other accessories. Electric motorcycle and bicycle models stood out with greater diversity and environment-friendly features in a period with increasing environmental awareness.

One of the world's biggest dance companies Fire of Anatolia's children troupe Spark is on stage with 80 children aged between 4-12. The show will take place at Kadıköy Halk Eğitim Merkezi on Sunday at 18:00. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.

Sketch Comedy Show “What Can I Do Sometimes?” will be performing at BKM Mutfak Sahne on Sunday at  19:00.  SCS is a comedy sketch show that four amusing theater teams put theirs sketches on the stage. In every show, teams write and play sketches about a specified theme and these night shows are moderated by a presenter who elevate stage excitement.
Tepe Nautilus mall  in Kadıköy will be  hosting  the third edition of Hammer Music’s bazaar & record fair on the weekend.  CDs, records, cassettes, DVDs, accessories and hi-fi equipment will be on sale. Exhibitions, live performances are among the activities.

Municipality of Kadıköy invites youngsters of all ages to iceskating at Özgürlük Park amphitheater stage until February 26,  everyday at 12:00-20:00. The session is 30 minutes (10 with the tutor).  The activity is free. Skates, knee pad and helmet will be provided.

Classical
Arkas Trio, composed of Tuncay Yılmaz (violin), Gustav Rivinius (violoncello) and Emre Elivar (piano) will be accompanying Victor Vasarely Turkey Retrospective exhibition at Tophane-i Amire on Saturday at 15:00. Program: Schubert and Mendelssohn. Entrance is free and open to all.

Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jean Bernard Pommier, will perform at Fulya Sanat on Friday at 20:00. Soloist:  Jean Bernard Pommier (piano) Program:  L. van Beethoven. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.

Istanbul State Opera and Ballet will perform Kaffeekantante (Kahve Kantantı), three concertos by J.S. Bach at Süreyya Opera House on Friday at 20:00 and Saturday at 16:00.  Book Worm and Can (Kitap Kurdu ve Can), two-act musical play for children will be staged on Sunday at 14:00.

World-famous pianist Islam Manafov will perform Bach Recital at Yeldeğirmeni Sanat, Kadıköy on Friday at 20:00. Chamber music concert by the bachelor and master students  of Istanbul State Conservatory is on Saturday at 20:00. Soloits:  Önder Cebeci (piano), Martin Kronthaler (baritone). Free admission.

Jazz
Nardis Jazz Club, Galata is hosting Luis E. Gomez  & Latin Jazz Band on Friday at 22:30. Istanbul Funk Unit will be on stage  on Saturday at 23:00.

Jazz in Breakfast: Sait Halim Paşa Waterfront in Yeniköy is hosting  Başak Yavuz Quartet on Sunday. Jazz in Breakfast with Siemens event begins with open-buffet breakfast at 10:30 and continues with the jazz concert at 11:15-13:30.

“From Jazz to Local & From Local to Jazz” with Nilüfer Verdi will be at Jazz Company, Elite World Istanbul Hotel on Friday at 22:00.

Gülcan Altan will take stage at Sakman Konak, Bahariye onFriday at 22:00. New Year performance of Vedat Sakman is on Saturday at 22:00.

Pop, Rock, Ethnic & Alternative
As part of !f Music, !f Gökkuşağı with Evrim de Evrim & Mr. Sür, Candaş Baş  and Şevval Kılıç will take place at Babylon Bomonti on Friday at 22:00. Oldies but Goldies party is on Saturday at 22:00.

Australian singer, songwriter Kat Frankie will be at Salon IKSV, Şişhane on Friday and Saturday at 21:30.

Hayko Cepkin “Acoustic” concert is  at Garajistanbul on Friday at 22:00.

İhtiyaç Molası will be at Beyoğlu Hayal Kahvesi  on Friday 22:30. Ercüneyt Özdemir will take stage at 00:30. Evet Ne Söylüyorduk will be on stage on Saturday at 22:30. The performance of Soul Stuff is at 00:30.

Harun Kolçak will take stage at Beyoğlu Jolly Joker on  Friday at 22:00. Berkay will perform on Saturday at 22:00.

Gökhan Türkmen will take stage at Beyrut Performance, Kartal  on Friday at 21:30. Yeni Türkü  will perform on  Saturday at 21:30.

Can Gox will perform at Hayal Kahvesi Atakent on Friday at 22:30. Gül Özgüne Altın will take stage on Saturday at 22B30.

Kadıköy Sahne is hosting Çamur on  Friday at 22:30 and Pinhani on Saturday at 22:30.

Feridun Düzağaç will perform  at Dorock XL, Kadıköy on Friday at 22:00. Alternative rock musicians mor ve ötesi, Gece, The Away Days ve Hayat Meyal  will be on stage on Saturday at 22:00.

Ümit Besen & Pamela will perform at IF Performance Hall Ataşehir stage on Friday at 22:00. Ödül & Funk Alaturka will be on stage at 00:30. Zuhal Olcay will take stage on Saturday at 22:00. The performance of Velvet is at 00:30

Kidzania at Acıbadem AkAsya Shopping Mall,  kids will learn about earning money by working, making their own decisions, shopping. Shortly, they can experience being an adult in a real city. Sessions: 10:00 and 15:30.

Trump shopping mall is hosting  KidzMondo, (the first Kids’ City of Turkey). Children ages between 4-14 can work in 40 different professions  and earn money. They enter the city via airport and select a profession and start to work. Sessions: Friday at 15:00, Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 and 15:30.

Gayrettepe Metro Station is hosting "Dialogue in Silence Istanbul" . Dialogue in Silence is an experience in total silence where participants discover a repertoire of non-verbal expression with the help of deaf and hearing impaired guides and trainers. Participants enter an area of complete silence wearing noise-cancelling headsets, and experience an environment that helps them discover openness, empathy and an enhanced power of concentration. ”. Dialogue in Silence enables a dialogue between hearing and non-hearing people while re-defining disability as ability. Visiting hours: 10:00-19:00. Duration 60 minutes.

Gayrettepe Metro Station is hosting “Dialogue in the Dark Istanbul”,  which offers you an incredible experience to understand daily life of blind people.  The concept of Dialogue in the Dark is simple: visitors are lead by blind guides in groups through specially constructed dark rooms in which scent, sound, wind, temperature and texture convey the characteristics of daily environments – for example a park, a city, a boat cruise or a bar. The daily routines become a new experience. Over the last twenty years Dialogue in the Dark has been presented in more than 30 countries and 130 cities throughout the world since its opening in 1988.  English tours:  Friday at 18:00, Saturday at 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00, Sunday at 14:00 and 16:00.

Gayrettepe Metro Station is also hosting “Turkcell Football in the Dark”, an exhibition and workshop to explore the unseen.  Football in the Dark offers the players an incredible experience to understand the daily life of blind people. The participants will also support Blind Football. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix. Time:  Saturday  10:00-19:00, Sunday 12:00-19:00 (with 30-minute intervals).

Jurassic Land at Forum İstanbul Shopping Mall, attracts the attention of all age groups with its museum, 3D theater, laboratory where visitors both learn and have fun, show garden and  shop that is selling special dinosaur concept objects. Weekend visiting hours – 10:00-20:00.

Snowpark in Haramidere Torium AVM is offering Snow Tubing with nine courses and Snow Rafting with 135-meter-long ski-run.

Vialand Theme Park, Eyüp is open between 11:00 and 20:00 on the weekend.

Istanbul Aquarium, Florya can be visited everyday between 10:00 and 20:00.
