This Weekend in Istanbul

December 15-17, 2017

Cam Ocağı (Glass Furnace) is organizing New Year Bazaar on Sunday, December 17 between 11:00 and 16:00. The bazaar offers bead making workshop for kids, all-day-long glass shows, special discounts,  a chance to make your Christmas ball with glass blowing or your own fusing plate, and 40 stands offering colorful gifts, mostly made of glass, for your beloved ones !  The proceeds will be used as a scholarship for glass art students.  Free shuttle from Kavacık (at 10:30), Kadıköy Evlendirme Dairesi (at 10:00) and Levent – across the Kanyon Shopping Center (at 10:00). Zorlu PSM will present another classic ballet with a screening from the Bolshoi Ballet:  The Nutcracker on December 17 at 16:00. Choreography: Yuri Grigorovich. Music: P.I. Tchaikovsky.  Please note that this is not a live performance, but screening of the official recording of Bolshoi Ballet performance.. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.

The 4th International Istanbul Silent Cinema Days will take place at Akbank Sanat, French Istitute and bomontiadaALT on December 14-17, 2017. The theme for this year's festival is " Dance!". For the fourth time, films from various archives around the world, including many recently restored classics, find their audience in Istanbul in a program exclusively dedicated to silent cinema.  All films during the festival are accompanied by live music and introduced to the audience by local and foreign scholars of cinema, film researchers and archive curators.  Tickets can be purchased through Biletix. Grand Pera in Beyoğlu is hosting Wine Festival on December 16 and 17 between  12:00 and 23:30 hours. Tastings, jazz and acoustic concerts, interviews, workshops  and more are among the facilities of this two-day-long festival. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix. For details please click.

Şeb-i Arus (Night of Union) is the commemorative ceremony for Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi and is one the worl's greatest shows. At the mausoleum of Mevlana inKonya, mystical ceremonial Whirling Dervishes perform in honor of the great teacher and thinker in December. The 744th Şeb-i Arus ceremonies will take place at Galata Mevlevihanesi on December 17 at 19:00.Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.

Eleni Vintaga organizes Vintage Festival at Mısır Apartmanı, İstiklal Caddesi on Sunday between 11:00 and 19:00. The festival offers second-hand designers' clothes, accessories, jewelry and antique objects. Free Enterance.

Saturday at 19:00 - Sema Ceremony by Istanbul Dervishes
Saturday at 21:00 - Rhythm of the Dance (Dansın Ritmi) show.

Birsen Ulucan & Özcan Ulucan & Ozan Tunca will perform at "Saturday Concerts" of Pera Palace Hotel Jumeriah on December 16  at 11:00. The concert will take place at Grand Pera Ball Room. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.

Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Alfonso Scarano, will perform  at Caddeboskan Cultural Center (CKM), Kadıköy at 20:00. Soloists: Roman Patkolo (double bass), Jerome Rigaudias (piano). Program: G. Bottesini, M. Ravel, S. Prokofiev. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.

Istanbul State Opera and Ballet will perform Neapolitan concert  at Süreyya Opera House on Friday at 20:00. Serenades is on  Saturday at 16:00.

Nardis Jazz Club, Galata is hosting Esra Zeynep Yücel Band on Friday at 22:30. Selen Beytekin will take stage on Saturday at 22:30.

As part of Garanti Jazz Green, Sleep Party People  will perform at Salon IKSV on Friday at 22:30.

Woman Blues with Göksenin  will take place  at Jazz Company, Elite World Istanbul Hotel on Friday at 22:00. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.

Jazz at Yeldeğirmeni Sanat, Kadıköy is hosting Esra Kayıkçı Quintet  on Friday at 20:30. Tickets can be purchased at Yeldeğirmeni Sanat box office.

Neşet Ruacan Band ft. İpek Dinç Yüce is  at Kadıköy Living Room  on Friday at 22:30.

Pop, Rock, Ethnic & Alternative
The2nd Mix Festival will take place at Zorlu PSM on Friday and Saturday. The Mix Festival brings together different genres of music under the same roof and  renowned names from both international and local music scene will take stage. The festival program will expand to all stages and areas of Zorlu PSM with concerts and other non-music events. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix.

Gabriel Prokofiev "Multitracks + Live Cello" & Klavikon, "Nonclassical" is at Borusan Music House on Saturday at 20:30.

Rock band Anathema will perform at Volkswagen Arena on Sunday at 21:30.

Yıldız Tilbe will take stage at Beyoğlu Jolly Joker on  Friday at 22:00. İrem Derici  will perform on Saturday at 22:00.

Hey! Douglas will take stage at  If Performance Hall in Beşiktaş on Friday at 22:00. Live performance of Fresh is at  01:00.  Reggae Night 2 is on Saturday at 22:00.
Mask Live Music Club, Beyoğlu is hosting Serkan Aydın and  Buğrahan Denizoğlu  on Friday at 22:00.

Mirkelam  will be at If Performance Ataşehir Stage on Friday at 22:00. DJ performance is at  00:30. Tan Taşçi will take stage  on Saturday at 22:00. The performance of Velvet is at 00:30.

Onur Akın will be at Beyrut Performance, Kartal  on Friday at 21:30. Nev will take stage on Saturday at 21:30.

Kadıköy Sahne is hosting Fatih Erdemci on  Friday at 22:30 and  İlkay Akkaya on Saturday at 22:30.

Istanbul Arabesque Project  will take stage at Hayal Kahvesi  Arenapark Atakent on Friday at 22:00. Mabel Matiz will perform on Saturday at 22:00.

With their music and shows extending well beyond the borders of Turkey, Ayhan Sicimoğlu & Latin All Stars,  will perform at Kozyatağı Kültür Merkezi  on Sunday at 19:00.

Rahmi M. Koç Museum is organizing Educational Workshops for children on the historic M.V. Fenerbahçe on Saturdays. Sponsored by Faber Castell, each week the workshop focuses on one of a range of subjects, consisting of painting, energy, astronomy, cinema, navigation, sculpture, puppets and drama. Experts and artists are invited as guests to some of these workshops. Children between the ages 5-7 can participate "New Year's House" workshop on Saturday at 13:00. Kidzania at Acıbadem AkAsya Shopping Mall,  kids will learn about earning money by working, making their own decisions, shopping. Shortly, they can experience being an adult in a real city. Sessions: 10:00 and 15:30.

Trump shopping mall is hosting  KidzMondo, (the first Kids’ City of Turkey). Children ages between 4-14 can work in 40 different professions  and earn money. They enter the city via airport and select a profession and start to work. Sessions: Friday at 15:00, Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 and 15:30.

Gayrettepe Metro Station is hosting "Dialogue in Silence Istanbul" . Dialogue in Silence is an experience in total silence where participants discover a repertoire of non-verbal expression with the help of deaf and hearing impaired guides and trainers. Participants enter an area of complete silence wearing noise-cancelling headsets, and experience an environment that helps them discover openness, empathy and an enhanced power of concentration. ”. Dialogue in Silence enables a dialogue between hearing and non-hearing people while re-defining disability as ability. Visiting hours: 10:00-19:00. Duration 60 minutes.

Gayrettepe Metro Station is hosting “Dialogue in the Dark Istanbul”,  which offers you an incredible experience to understand daily life of blind people.  The concept of Dialogue in the Dark is simple: visitors are lead by blind guides in groups through specially constructed dark rooms in which scent, sound, wind, temperature and texture convey the characteristics of daily environments – for example a park, a city, a boat cruise or a bar. The daily routines become a new experience. Over the last twenty years Dialogue in the Dark has been presented in more than 30 countries and 130 cities throughout the world since its opening in 1988.  English tours:  Friday at 18:00, Saturday at 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00, Sunday at 14:00 and 16:00.

Gayrettepe Metro Station is also hosting “Turkcell Football in the Dark”, an exhibition and workshop to explore the unseen.  Football in the Dark offers the players an incredible experience to understand the daily life of blind people. The participants will also support Blind Football. Tickets can be purchased through Biletix. Time:  Saturday  10:00-19:00, Sunday 12:00-19:00 (with 30-minute intervals).

Jurassic Land at Forum İstanbul Shopping Mall, attracts the attention of all age groups with its museum, 3D theater, laboratory where visitors both learn and have fun, show garden and  shop that is selling special dinosaur concept objects. Weekend visiting hours – 10:00-20:00.

Snowpark in Haramidere Torium AVM is offering Snow Tubing with nine courses and Snow Rafting with 135-meter-long ski-run.

Vialand Theme Park, Eyüp is open between 11:00 and 20:00 on the weekend.

Istanbul Aquarium, Florya can be visited everyday between 10:00 and 20:00.
